Most of the orthodontic cases that braces treat can also be treated with clear aligners, though not all. Dr. Swihart will consult with you and let you know what your options are.
Even if you are a candidate for clear aligners, the key is that — in order for them to do their job — you have to wear them 23 of every 24 hours a day! So, just because they are conveniently removable, such as to allow more comfortable eating, this doesn’t mean you should remove them frequently. Doing so will make this type of orthodontic treatment very ineffective, so it may not be the best option for young who are tempted to take the aligner out too often.
How Long Do Braces Last?
How long will you have to wear your braces? In most cases, the answer is around one to two years. Factors that will determine how long you need to wear your braces include how much the teeth need to move, whether you have bite alignment issues or not, and how diligent you are in wearing any bands required for optimal treatment completion time.
